Plot Twists I Didn’t See Coming: Reviewing My Favorite Thriller Books

I've read over 50 books in the past couple of years, and by far, my favorite genre is thrillers. There’s just something about these fast-paced, suspenseful stories that keep me hooked from start to finish. I honestly think thrillers are a perfect genre for anyone wanting to get into reading because they’re so hard to put down! Just recently, I devoured five thrillers back-to-back in a month and a half, and it inspired me to create this blog post because I came across some incredible reads I can't wait for you to check out. 1. What Lies Between Us by John Marrs

  • About: What Lies Between Us is a chilling thriller that delves into a twisted relationship between two women who live together. Secrets unfold in their claustrophobic household, each reveal darker than the last. The story’s unpredictable twists make it impossible to guess what’s coming next.

  • Why I Loved It: The suspense kept me on edge, and the psychological games between the characters made it impossible to stop reading. Perfect for fans of domestic thrillers that dig deep into psychological torment.

2. The Kind Worth Killing by Peter Swanson

  • About: This book follows a man and a woman who meet on a flight and begin plotting a murder together. But nothing is as it seems in this story, as dark secrets from each character's past slowly come to light.

  • Why I Loved It: The characters’ twisted motives and surprising alliances made this book an absolute page-turner. The twists are so intense they had me questioning who I could trust until the very last page.

3. Local Woman Missing by Mary Kubica

  • About: Local Woman Missing centers on multiple disappearances in a small town, weaving together a storyline full of twists, lies, and shocking revelations as the truth comes out.

  • Why I Loved It: This thriller felt like a true puzzle to solve. Kubica masterfully keeps the suspense building, making it a gripping read from beginning to end.

4. The Guest List by Lucy Foley

  • About: Set on a remote island, this story feels like a modern version of the game Clue. As wedding guests gather, the celebration quickly takes a dark turn when a murder occurs, and everyone becomes a suspect.

  • Why I Loved It: I’d honestly rate this book 6 out of 5 stars. It was intense, atmospheric, and truly felt like a murder mystery game. I was hooked the entire time, and each twist felt even more surprising than the last!

5. Hidden Pictures by Jason Rekulak

  • About: Hidden Pictures follows a young woman hired as a nanny for a child who starts drawing eerie images of the house's dark history. The drawings reveal a mysterious and chilling past.

  • Why I Loved It: This book had a perfect blend of supernatural elements and psychological suspense. The storyline kept me guessing about what was real and what wasn’t until the very end.

6. The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley

  • About: When a woman arrives at her brother’s apartment in Paris only to find him missing, she starts piecing together secrets hidden within the apartment complex and its residents.

  • Why I Loved It: The suspense builds as each neighbor’s secrets are uncovered, and the story's setting adds a haunting, closed-in feeling that’s perfect for a thriller.

7. Never Lie by Freida McFadden

  • About: This thriller explores the lives of a couple who stumble upon an abandoned house during a snowstorm. What they find inside makes them realize they’re not as alone as they thought.

  • Why I Loved It: The claustrophobic setting and the escalating mystery kept me riveted. If you enjoy thrillers that make you feel tense with each page, this is for you.

8. Daisy Darker by Alice Feeney

  • About: Daisy Darker brings a family together on a remote island to celebrate a birthday, but things take a deadly turn as each family member is killed one by one.

  • Why I Loved It: This is such a unique thriller that felt almost poetic. The isolated setting and the dark family secrets revealed made it unforgettable and hauntingly beautiful.

9. The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine

  • About: This story follows a woman who inserts herself into a wealthy couple’s life, but things quickly spiral as motives and secrets unfold.

  • Why I Loved It: Liv Constantine, who are actually two sisters that live in my hometown, created a story with such an addicting mix of deceit and glamour. I’ve even had the honor of making a few TikToks for them! The plot twists in this book are unforgettable and incredibly satisfying.

10. The Senator’s Wife by Liv Constantine

  • About: This thriller tells the story of a woman whose perfect life is shattered after a series of manipulations and lies put her marriage and status at risk.

  • Why I Loved It: The suspense and political elements made this story complex and intriguing, with each twist drawing me further in. Liv Constantine’s writing is both smart and intense, perfect for fans of thrillers that go beyond just a mystery.

11. The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides

  • About: This psychological thriller revolves around a woman who shoots her husband and then becomes silent, refusing to speak. A psychotherapist becomes obsessed with uncovering her reasons.

  • Why I Loved It: The layers of suspense and mystery were masterfully done. Michaelides's writing made the ending feel inevitable yet shocking, and the plot twist blew me away.

The Boyfriend by Freida McFadden

  • About: The Boyfriend tells the story of a seemingly perfect relationship that takes a dark, twisted turn. The protagonist starts noticing inconsistencies in her boyfriend’s behavior, and as she digs deeper, she uncovers secrets she never saw coming.

  • Why I Loved It: I just finished this one a couple of days ago, and I’m still thinking about how crazy the ending was. The plot twist completely shocked me, making it one of those thrillers that stays with you long after you’ve finished.

13. The Teacher by Freida McFadden

  • About: The Teacher follows the story of a teacher who begins suspecting one of her students of harboring dangerous secrets. As she investigates, she finds herself tangled in a web of lies and deceit, questioning whom she can trust.

  • Why I Loved It: The tension builds perfectly, keeping you on the edge of your seat, and the final twist was completely unexpected. McFadden’s ability to layer suspense made this one of my favorite thrillers.


Conclusion

These thrillers each brought something unique, whether it was a mind-blowing plot twist, an eerie setting, or unforgettable characters.
