How to Properly Use Body Oils and Lotions for Glowing Skin After a Shower
If you're like me, stepping out of the shower is the perfect time to pamper your skin. There’s something about the ritual of applying body oil and lotion that feels luxurious, almost like a mini spa experience right in your bathroom. Over the years, I’ve tried countless products, and I've learned that how you layer oils and lotions truly makes a difference in how radiant and soft your skin feels.
As the sales coordinator for Irene Forte Skincare, I know my stuff when it comes to body care. You might notice that I rave about their products quite a bit—and I’ll admit, I’m a bit biased! But honestly, I genuinely believe they offer some of the best body oils and lotions out there. What really sets them apart for me is their focus on effective ingredients that deliver noticeable results in just a few weeks.
If you're interested in any of the products I mention, just click on the images, and it'll take you straight to my LTK where you can purchase them! Here’s the routine I swear by to keep my skin glowing and hydrated all day long.
Step 1: Start with Damp Skin
The key to making body oils work their magic is applying them to slightly damp skin. Trust me, I used to towel off completely and wonder why the oils felt greasy. Turns out, damp skin helps the oil absorb much better, locking in moisture instead of sitting on top of the skin. So, pat (don’t rub!) yourself dry after your shower and get ready for the next step.
Tips:
Use a soft towel: A gentle towel can help reduce irritation while drying your skin.
Take your time: Allow your skin to stay damp for a minute or two before applying any products.
Avoid hot showers: Hot water can strip your skin of natural oils, so try to use lukewarm water instead.
Step 2: Apply Your Favorite Body Oil
Now, I’m kind of obsessed with body oils. My absolute favorites are from Irene Forte Skincare, especially their Pistachio Body Oil, Rose Body Oil, and Sage Body Oil. Each one has something special to offer.
The Pistachio Body Oil is my go-to when I want to plump and rejuvenate my skin. It has this breakthrough ingredient called phytomelatonin, developed by Dr. Ferri, which boosts the skin's renewal process. After about four weeks, you’ll notice a real difference in your skin's texture—like, plumper and healthier-looking. If this sounds up your alley, you should also check out the Pistachio Face Oil and Phytomelatonin Rejuvenating Serum for a full-body glow.
But, if I had to pick a personal favorite, it’s the Rose Body Oil—it smells absolutely incredible! Plus, it’s packed with ximenynic acid, which is known for soothing skin and improving the appearance of cellulite. For your face, they have a Rose Face Oil that smells just as good and gives your skin that same glow.
Last but definitely not least, the Sage Body Oil. If your muscles are feeling tired, this one is a game-changer. It’s been proven to ease and comfort, and after just two weeks, 89% of users report relief. I can vouch for that! I alternate between these oils, depending on what my skin needs that day. After shaving, though, any of them make my skin feel so smooth and silky. I’m honestly obsessed.
Sage Body Oil
Tips:
Warm the oil: Rub the oil between your hands before applying to help it spread more easily and feel luxurious.
Focus on problem areas: Pay extra attention to dry spots, like elbows and knees, for a more thorough treatment.
Use a little or a lot: Start with a small amount of oil; you can always add more if needed.
Step 3: Lock in Moisture with Lotion
After the oil has had a minute to sink in, it’s time to seal the deal with lotion. One of my favorites is the Irene Forte White Wine Body Cream. It’s amazing for maintaining your skin's barrier and keeping everything hydrated. For a more budget-friendly option, I love the viral EOS Body Lotion—especially the Fresh & Cozy scent. I’ve probably repurchased it four times already, and it never disappoints!
Tips:
Layer strategically: Apply lotion on top of the oil to lock in moisture effectively.
Massage as you apply: Take a moment to massage the lotion into your skin; it improves circulation and makes the process feel spa-like.
Reapply throughout the day: If your skin feels dry, don’t hesitate to apply more lotion during the day.
Step 4: Self-Tanning (Optional)
Now, this step is totally optional, but if you’re into a healthy tan, self-tanning is a great addition to your routine. My go-to products are the B.Tan Glow Your Own Way Gel, St. Tropez, Tanologist, Isle of Paradise, and Jergens. They all give a natural, streak-free tan and keep my skin looking sun-kissed without the UV damage.
Tips:
Exfoliate before tanning: A gentle scrub before applying self-tanner helps prevent patchiness and ensures an even application.
Use a tanning mitt: This keeps your hands clean and helps the product spread evenly.
Start slow: If you’re new to self-tanning, begin with a light formula to build up your color gradually.
Step 5: Let Everything Absorb
Once you’ve applied your oils, lotions, and any optional self-tanner, give it all time to absorb. You’ll be left with skin that feels nourished, silky, and, most importantly, glowing!
Tips:
Avoid tight clothing: Let your skin breathe and absorb the products without friction from clothing.
Stay hydrated: Drinking water is essential for keeping your skin looking plump and radiant from the inside out.
Give yourself time: Try to carve out a few extra minutes in your routine to relax after applying your products; it’s worth it!
This routine has honestly changed the way I care for my skin after a shower. By following these steps and choosing products that work for your skin, you can transform your post-shower routine into a self-care ritual. Trust me, your skin will thank you!
