Overthinking what others think of us is a tough habit to break. These mindfulness techniques can help you stay grounded and redirect your energy toward what truly matters: your own self-approval. By focusing on these steps, you can build a more positive self-image and release the need for external validation.


1. No One Knows You Better Than Yourself

It’s true – you know yourself better than anyone else. Imagine if someone told you the sky was green or your hair was a color it clearly isn’t – would you question it? The same approach applies when people call you “mean” or “unattractive.” Remember, you’re the one who truly knows your intentions, your values, and who you are as a person. Use this confidence to let comments roll off, knowing you know your truth.

2. Your Opinion is the Only One That Matters

Only you live your life and make decisions every day that shape it. Other people may give their opinions, but they aren’t the ones walking in your shoes. By placing your own opinions first, you’re honoring your inner voice rather than seeking approval that, ultimately, can change on a whim. Trust in yourself and the choices you make, knowing that they’re rooted in your own values and beliefs.

3. Live for Your Approval, Not Others’

There’s a saying, “If you live for others’ approval, you’ll die by their disapproval.” It’s a bold statement, but there’s truth to it. 5. People Will Have an Opinion Regardless

Whether you do one thing or the opposite, people will always have something to say. Think of all the times you’ve seen or heard people make snap judgments without really knowing someone. People’s opinions are often just a reflection of their own insecurities or boredom. So, why let their idle thoughts influence your choices? Do what feels right for you, knowing that others’ opinions are fleeting, but your own choices shape your future.

6. People’s Thoughts Reflect Themselves, Not You

This one is especially freeing. A lot of times, people’s judgments are more about their own experiences and insecurities than anything to do with you. Their view of you is shaped by their own lenses – things they’re going through, past experiences, or even struggles. You can’t control how others see you, and you’ll never know exactly what version of you they see. Instead of worrying about what others think, focus on becoming the best version of yourself for you.
